    < Back Chair Amate on How to Revitalise Hong Kong's International Business Community TVB Pearl 25 Oct 2022 Inaki Amate, Chair of EuroCham, was interviewed by Zela Chin for TVB Pearl to discuss the consequences of two years of rigid restrictions on the business community, transitioning to the 0+3 arrangement and if it is enough to regain Hong Kong's status as an international business hub. With multiple organisations moving their headquarters out of Hong Kong due to the decreased flow of trade during the strict pandemic restrictions, it might delay their return to operate in Hong Kong in the near future. Amate puts emphasis on cancelling all border and COVID-19 restrictions in order to attract tourists and companies, thus also repossess Hong Kong's reputation as a safe place to travel as well as an international scene for business.     < Back 28 July 2021 FSBC Asset Management Paper 2020 The European Chamber of Commerce in Hong Kong (EuroCham) is pleased to announce the publication of its latest position paper on the asset management industry in Hong Kong and Europe which has been prepared by Eurocham’s Financial Services Business Council (FSBC), with contributions from industry. Despite the current uncertainty generated by the on-going COVID-19 pandemic, EuroCham believes that the long term opportunities for the growth and development of the asset management industry in Hong Kong and Europe remain strong. The paper seeks to highlight recent developments in the asset management industry in both Hong Kong and Europe and identify how those developments will impact industry participants. A key goal of the paper is to foster dialogue between stakeholders in Hong Kong and Europe through increased cooperation and collaboration. The paper seeks to summarise key industry developments including the establishment of Wealth Management Connect, the development of the ETF industry in Hong Kong, the introduction of open-ended fund companies, and limited partnership funds in Hong Kong and broader trends relating to green finance, ESG investing, cryptocurrency and FinTech.     < Back Hong Kong Ends Last Covid Curbs in Bid to Revive Finance Hub Bloomberg 28 Dec 2022 Hong Kong will end some of its last major Covid rules, scrapping gathering limits to vaccination checks and testing for travelers, in a sweeping overhaul of policies aimed at reviving its reputation as a global financial center. There will be no cap on the number of people who can gather in public, and the vaccine pass for entry to a raft of venues will also be scrapped, starting from Thursday, Chief Executive John Lee said Wednesday. Close contacts of Covid-positive people won’t need to quarantine and limits on the number of people who can sit together in restaurants and bars — currently 12 and six, respectively — will be lifted. The city will also no longer require inbound travelers to take two PCR tests after their arrival, but recommends they take rapid tests through their fifth day in the city.     < Back 7 June 2018 EEBC Position Paper 2018 On 8 June EuroCham participated in a roundtable discussion with Dr. Astrid Schomaker , Director for Strategy at the European Commission’s Directorate-General for the Environment. During the roundtable, Ms. Schomaker gave an update on the main developments of the EU Circular Economy package, EU Plastic Strategy, and the next steps. In order to move from a linear approach into a circular approach which the European Union has adopted an action plan focusing on waste, plastic, and green buildings. Particular on changing the linear waste management process into a circular process whereby waste becomes the new raw material to be used again EEBC took the opportunity to provide Ms. Schomaker with the first printed version of the Environmental & Energy Business Council 2018 position paper to mark the occasion The EEBC 2018 position paper In December 2017 Hong Kong Government presented Hong Kong Smart City blueprint. EEBC has addressed the strategy and initiatives identified in the Smart Environment section of the blueprint, relating to Waste Management, Green and Intelligent Buildings (including energy efficiency), and the Climate Action Plan 2030+. In addition, the EEBC position paper touches upon Hong Kong’s current situation, future opportunities and challenges, and presents a comprehensive comparison between the policy making and business approaches taken by Hong Kong Government and the member states within the European Union. [Ming Pao News] The Hong Kong government has rescinded the quarantine reduction arrangement for people who have tested antibodies against the new coronavirus since yesterday. The European Chamber of Commerce in Hong Kong issued an open letter to Chief Executive Carrie Lam, saying that tightening quarantine is a step backwards, and Hong Kong should have a clear strategy for "getting out of the epidemic," otherwise the foreign community will question whether it is necessary to stay in Hong Kong endlessly, which will affect the status of an international financial center in the long run.
