Greenway 2024: The Dialogue - A Key Milestone for Sustainability in Hong Kong

We are pleased to reflect on the success of ‘Greenway 2024: The Dialogue’, a pivotal event that was held on April 29, 2024, at Conrad Hong Kong. Organised jointly by the European Union Office to Hong Kong and Macau, the European Chamber of Commerce in Hong Kong, Invest Hong Kong, and the Hong Kong General Chamber of Commerce, this forum marked its third edition as a cornerstone for advancing environmental sustainability in Hong Kong and the broader region.

The event featured an impressive lineup of speakers, including the Hon John KC Lee, Chief Executive of the HKSAR, and Paul Chan Mo-po, Financial Secretary of the HKSAR. Their presence underscored the commitment of Hong Kong's leaders to fostering sustainable practices across various sectors. Along with other distinguished guests and industry leaders, they contributed to a series of rich discussions centered around five themes chosen for the year: Green Cities, Green Innovation and Technology, Green Finance, Green Mobility, and Green Trade.

Each theme was explored through the lens of Hong Kong's unique challenges and opportunities. Notable topics included urban planning in harmony with nature, fostering green technology and innovation, enhancing financial strategies to support sustainability, integrating sustainable practices within transportation, and promoting environmentally responsible trade practices.

The dialogue facilitated at the event was instrumental in producing actionable policy recommendations, which were presented to the HKSAR government to close the session. These recommendations aim to integrate sustainability more deeply into the fabric of society and promote a collaborative approach between European and Hong Kong entities in business and government.

The evening also provided an opportunity for attendees to network in a relaxed setting, complete with light refreshments, allowing stakeholders from various fields to forge connections and discuss future collaborations.

We extend our heartfelt thanks to our sponsors, including BMW Hong Kong, Sino Group, and ReThink HK, as well as supporting organizations like BEC and Kadoorie Farm. Their support was crucial in bringing this event to fruition.

As we look forward to future dialogues, EuroCham remains committed to fostering the partnerships and ideas initiated at Greenway 2024. The collective efforts and insights from this event are steps toward realising a more sustainable future for Hong Kong and the wider region.
