On 31 January, Hong Kong and the central government stopped recognising British National (Overseas) passports [BNOP]
It was not immediately clear what impact, if any, the move would have on BNOP holders, as most Hongkongers do not use a passport to enter mainland China. However, in recent weeks there have been growing calls to restrict the rights of those holding a BNOP. Secretary for Justice Teresa Cheng said Hong Kong will cooperate with any countermeasures by Beijing against London.
