    < Back Population of Hong Kong in decline for the first time since the 1960s SCMP 1 Feb 2021 Hong Kong recorded more deaths than births last year for the first time, in what experts said was a warning of an imminent decline in the city’s overall population. According to unpublished provisional figures from the Census and Statistics Department obtained by the Post , there were 43,100 newborns and 49,800 deaths in the city in 2020, resulting in a negative natural population increase of about 6,700, the first negative value since official records began in the 1960s. The negative natural population increase came earlier than the government forecast, which suggested in 2017 the phenomenon would emerge in 2026, before revising that to 2021. Read the article here .     < Back European Travel & Tourism Council (ETTC) The Travel & Tourism Council of the European Chamber of Commerce aims at establishing regular dialogue with the Hong Kong Government and relevant stakeholders to strengthen and facilitate travel & tourism for European companies in Hong Kong, its workforce and beyond, as well as to shape the recovery journey of the sector after the pandemic. Main Objectives ​ The Council focuses on several areas: Hong Kong- GBA- Mainland China Synergy: even though Hong Kong, Macao and Mainland are well connected through various infrastructures, regulations, unclarity and visa restrictions are still barriers for free and smooth travel. ETTC will work together with the Hong Kong government on solutions to these barriers. Strengthen Hong Kong’s position as an international hub: The council offers a platform to connect and develop plans to strengthen the position of the city as an international hub for travellers. Security & Travel Facilitation: The council advocates for improved visa facilitation and a safe traveller journey by using innovative technologies and strategies leading to economic growth and job creation Crisis Recovery: ETTC presents ideas and demands to the Hong Kong Government to develop together a post-pandemic travel & tourism strategy so to mitigate the impact of the crisis in the recent year(s). Sustainable Travel & Tourism: As far as possible, the Council aims at promoting sustainable travel & tourism practices to mitigate negative effects caused by the growing impact of the sector. During the event, our notable speakers addressed the topics of ESG expertise and ESG talents in Hong Kong.
