    Join the dialogue about the EU and Hong Kong’s efforts to achieve sustainable growth! The European Union Office to Hong Kong and Macau (EU Office), the European Chamber of Commerce in Hong Kong (EuroCham Hong Kong), Invest Hong Kong and the Hong Kong General Chamber of Commerce (HKGCC) are excited to announce ‘Greenway 2024: The Dialogue’. Scheduled for April 29, 2024, at Conrad Hong Kong. ​ The European Union and Hong Kong have committed to ambitious targets for achieving climate neutrality. As we enter the third edition of this forum, we are honoured to have the Hon John KC LEE, Chief Executive of the HKSAR and Paul CHAN Mo-po, Financial Secretary of the HKSAR, the Head of the EU Office and Chairman of EuroCham Hong Kong, among other senior representatives attending in diverse capacities. We aim to bring together government officials, industry experts and other stakeholders to facilitate dialogue, encourage partnerships, and drive sustainable initiatives that can contribute to a greener future for Hong Kong and the wider region. ​ This year's edition is built upon five themes towards a more sustainable and environmentally conscious future: ​ 1. Green Cities focuses on creating urban spaces that are not only habitable but are also in harmony with nature. We touch upon procurement rules, circularity, efficient resource management and biodiversity protection, with a focus on Northen Metropolis. 2. Green Innovation and Technology encourages developing and implementing technology and ideas that pave the way for a greener future. We discuss Hong Kong’s role as a talent hub, initiatives to foster entrepreneurship, and the utilisation of technology to enhance sustainable practices. 3. Green Finance highlights the role of financial strategies and investments in supporting sustainability, aiming to steer the economy towards greener initiatives and discussing themes such as taxonomy, interoperability, disclosure and reporting standards. 4. Green Mobility focuses on promoting the integration of sustainable practices within transportation, with a focus on aviation. 5. Green Trade aims to enhance the sustainability of global trade by embarking on a conversation that discusses Hong Kong’s role as a sourcing hub and measures that limit illegal wildlife trafficking, among others. ​ ‘Greenway 2024: The Dialogue’ is significant in advancing sustainability within Hong Kong and beyond. Organising industry-specific discussions encourages meaningful dialogue that bridges various sectors. These conversations are expected to yield a set of actionable policy recommendations to reflect the unique challenges and opportunities within industry sectors in the context of Hong Kong and the wider region. At the end of the event, the recommendations will be delivered to the HKSAR government, serving as suggestions for integrating sustainability more profoundly into our societal fabric and signalling a collaborative approach between Europe and the Hong Kong government and business community. ​ The evening promises to be a remarkable occasion for exchanging views, fostering connections, expanding horizons, and strengthening alliances between diverse stakeholders by allowing time for networking in a relaxed environment including light refreshments after the formal programme. ​ Please note that sign up for this event is closed. Marketing Trainee Starting Date: ASAP Duration 3-6 onths Job Summary: ​ EuroCham is looking for a Marketing Trainee for a period of 3 to 6 months. Please note that this role is voluntary. The Trainee should ideally be a student of marketing, design, web programming or any related fields. Responsibilities: ​ ​1. Content creation and management: Design and produce marketing materials, including website content, newsletters, social media posts, press releases, and promotional materials. Ensure consistency in brand messaging and maintain the Chamber's online presence. Familiarity with basic design concepts and tools: Canva, Wix. 2. Implementing marketing strategies: Collaborating with the marketing manager to implement social media, website and marketing plans and campaigns that align with the Chamber's objectives and target audience. 3. Event coordination and promotion: Supporting the planning, organization, and promotion of Chamber events, such as seminars, workshops, networking sessions, and conferences. Collaborating with internal teams and external partners to ensure seamless execution.     < Back HSBC to end coal financing by 2040 after facing pressure from investors SCMP 12 Mar 2021 HSBC said that it would end financing of coal mining and coal-fired power plants in the European Union and countries that make up the Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) by 2030, and a decade later elsewhere, following pressure from investors The London-based bank said it would propose a special resolution on climate change and outline its ambitions to reduce carbon emissions to net zero in its loan portfolio by 2050, at its annual meeting in May. “We are delighted to be setting out the next phase of our net zero strategy in this resolution and invite our shareholders to support us on this journey,” Noel Quinn, HSBC’s chief executive (CEO), said in a stock exchange filing. “This represents an unprecedented level of cooperation between a bank, shareholders and NGOs on a critical issue, with a positive outcome for all.” SCMP Previous Next

    < Back Charging ahead with electric vehicles The Standard 19 Mar 2021 Hong Kong plans to increase charging stations to 155,000 by 2025 as it launched the first roadmap to popularise electric vehicles yesterday. Registration of new vehicles with internal combustion engines, including hybrids, will be stopped by 2035, under the Hong Kong Roadmap on Popularisation of Electric Vehicles. To encourage people to go electric, the plan will increase private electric charging facilities to 150,000 and public facilities to 5,000 four years from now. In September 2019, there were 2,506 public chargers, a document to the Legislative Council shows. Secretary for the Environment Wong Kam-sing said yesterday the government will look into potentially requiring all parking spaces in new private buildings to be equipped with charging facilities.The scheme would be a stepped-up version of an existing scheme, which encourages developers to install charging infrastructure for gross floor area concessions for car parks, Wong said.
