The EuroCham Intellectual Property Rights Business Council (IPRBC) and Hong Kong Customs organized a Training Seminar on 13 June 2018, providing information about seizure identification in order to facilitate legal enforcement in the borders by the frontline Customs Officers. Brand representatives included Burberry Limited, Prada Asia Pacific Limited, Kering Asia Pacific Limited, Louis Vuitton Hong Kong Limited, Ferragamo Hong Kong Limited, and Chanel Limited. Each of them gave informative presentations of their brands’ history and background, product lines, and product features etc.

Ms. Sammi S Y PANG, Inspector from the Seizure Identification Unit of Hong Kong Customs welcomed this training seminar as it has provided first-hand information to their legal enforcers of how to inspect counterfeit products. Ms. Jessica Chan, Co-chair of EuroCham IPRBC, also the Intellectual Property Counsel for Asia Pacific of Burberry Limited, thanked Hong Kong Customs and all the brand representatives for their support of this training seminar. Both of them are looking forward to future cooperation for seizure identification.

Representatives from these 6 brands also displayed their genuine and counterfeit samples to allow frontline Customs Officers better understand their product features that distinguish them from the counterfeit ones.

The analysis presented in today's Country Reports shows that the economic recovery, together with the reforms carried out in many parts of Europe, has contributed to improving the labour market and social context in Europe. Unemployment is at a ten-year low and almost back to pre-crisis levels, investment is picking up and public finances continue to improve. The share of people at risk of poverty or social exclusion has decreased to pre-crisis levels. However, remaining vulnerabilities, such as the high level of public and private debt, need to be overcome to safeguard the sustainability and inclusiveness of the current economic growth.

It is therefore important that all businesses analyse their exposure to the UK and are ready to adapt their logistics, supply chains and contracts. Of course, the transition period currently under negotiation would give you more time to adapt. However, certainty about the transition will only come at the end of the process, with the ratification of the withdrawal agreement by both sides –probably early next year.
