EU COMPETITION AND TRADE LAW & POLICY 21 October The European Chamber of Commerce in Hong Kong, thanks to EUBIP, was delighted to act as a supporting organization in the breakfast seminar on "EU competition and trade law and policy" hosted by the law firm White & Case with Partner Jacquelyn MacLennan and Associate Sara Nordin. The seminar featured a presentation by Ms. MacLennan on the EU's competition law framework (including cartel restrictions and merger control) and related recent developments, highlighting targeted industry sectors and how both EU and non-EU businesses can work to ensure everyday compliance with the relevant rules in an attempt to avoid increasing investigations and fines. Ms. Nordin's presentation focused on recent trade, customs and economic sanctions developments within the EU, with particular emphasis on the economic sanctions measures imposed by the EU on countries such as Burma/Myanmar, Iran, Libya and Syria and how they can have an impact on non-EU businesses.
